Frequently Asked Questions
What do I need to play the game?
Just a computer! The game is played over Zoom, but you do not need to have the Zoom application installed to be able to play. Having Zoom installed (can be done for free) will give you access to Zoom tools that may be helpful during a game, but are not required. We will send your organizer a link to the game, so all you have to do is click on it 15 minutes before the game is set to start! A desktop or laptop is optimal, but the game is playable on mobile devices as well. Note that if you wish to play on a mobile device, you MUST have the Zoom application installed in order to play.
Does everyone need to have their own device?
Not officially, but the more devices : people you have, the more people there will be with access to the Zoom tools. To put it simply, more devices typically means it is easier to solve puzzles. That being said, it is entirely possible to play with everyone in one room looking at one screen (many choose to hook their laptops up to a big TV). Please note that games played via projector may be difficult as it has been observed that projectors can cause some discolouration which may interfere with any colour- based puzzles
What are the Zoom tools that we can use?
The two main functions are the “Annotate” and “Side by Side mode” functions. Once the Game Master has shared their screen, you will see a button that says “View Options” at the top middle of your screen. This will open a menu, where you can find both functions. If you are playing on a mobile device, the “side by side mode” option is unavailable to you. To annotate on a mobile device, simply TAP your screen and you should see a “pen” icon pop up along the bottom of your screen's borders.
How many people can play at once?
You should organize groups of at least 4 people. This way, there are enough brains to progress through the game at an appropriate pace and to provide alternative perspectives.
A Game Master can accommodate groups of up to 10 people at a time
How do the games work?
Your Game Master will share their screen with you over Zoom so that you can see the puzzles. Using your wits and the Zoom tools, you will be tasked with solving each puzzle as a team. When you are ready to guess your answer, simply tell it to your Game Master who will let you know if you got the answer right.
How many hints are we allowed?
You are allowed an unlimited number of hints. When comparing your times to other groups on the leaderboard, you will be compared to groups that used the same number of hints (and people playing). There’s no pressure if you would like some help: simply ask your Game Master!
Do we need to have any outside knowledge in order to play the games?
Unless explicitly stated, all puzzles are designed to be solvable using only the information provided in-game.
How long are the games?
The games are designed to take around an hour.
What is the age recommendation to play?
As of now, all our games are recommended to be played by those aged 13 and older. We are working to develop more youth-friendly games in the future, so keep your eyes peeled!
I have two groups that would like to compete against each other. Is this possible?
Absolutely. We can currently do up to 2 groups at once (with max 10 people in a group). Please email or call us to set it up!
I booked a game and made my payment. What do I do now?
Check your email to ensure you received a confirmation from us. At least 30 minutes before your game, your Game Master will send you an email with the Zoom meeting information. Please send this email to all your fellow teammates so everyone can access the meeting and therefore the game.
Why do you ask people to join the Zoom call 15 minutes prior?
This is a 15 minute buffer intended to account for any technical difficulties anyone may have joining the Zoom meeting. There is also some preliminary information that your group should hear prior to your game timer starting, which we hope to be as close to your game start time as possible. We can also start the game if your entire party is online and ready within the 15 minutes before your official start time.
